Collins Street

Mixed Use

This is AOA’s original birth place, and before this the long standing studio of renowned education architect, John Gribble, this 36sqm north facing unit on the corner of Collins and Spring Street was reimagined as a boutique studio apartment. For 3 years, AOA operated out of this space, appreciating the heritage charm of Alcaston House and the sun filled views along Spring Street. However, as the company expanded, we soon required a bigger space. AOA designed and project managed the delivery of the residential fit out, including the addition of a bathroom, kitchenette, laundry, and raised floor to house its new services. Being so compact in size, joinery played a major part in providing adequate storage in an unobtrusive manner. A large sliding wall completely conceals a secret bathroom, which, when open to its full extent, connects the bedroom, living and shower spaces in one large open plan, New York style unit. Steel framed windows to the north and east facades look onto green tree canopies and permit sunlight into all corners of the unit.
