Wellington Street

Residential

This double story late 1800’s house is perched on top of Flemington highest hill, on one of its most prestigious, tree lined streets. Sharing an address with historically significant buildings such as the Flemington Court House (1889) and the Police Station (1891) this classic example of Victorian architecture has a commanding (although setback) presence to the street. The design challenge therefore was to respect and celebrate the old form, by removing recent ad hoc extension and proving the large family with more open plan and contemporary living spaces, that was distinctly different and subservient to the existing house. Being in the concrete game, the client was also keen to explore this material as the main, exposed structural and cladding elements.
