Michael has been a leader in the architectural profession, nationally and internationally, over the past four decades, he is a former President and later the CEO of the Australian Institute of Architects. In 1990 he was made a Member of the Order of Australia for services to architecture.

Michael and Graham Whitford established the award winning architectural practice of Whitford and Peck in 1962, where Michael served as a Director for 30 years. He was the design director for many community, residential, educational and commercial projects. He has also served as a Director of many organizations including, the National Building and Construction Council, Victorian Building Appeals Board, the Australian Council of National Trusts and the National Trust of Australia (Vic).

As a former Member of the International Union of Architects Practice Commission and National Practice Director for the Australian Institute of Architects, Michael brings strong guidance to AOA’s management team. He has been an outspoken advocate for the design professions for many decades and believes strongly in, not only the cultural but also the economic value of creative good design.
