Bairnsdale Secondary College (Stage 02)

Education

Bairnsdale Secondary College sits on an expansive site nearby to the Mitchell River. Integral to the school’s identity is a large wetland that the existing Science Hub borders. The extensions to the north and south of the Science Hub emphasise the connection to the wetlands by allowing more classrooms to have external access for class experiments.
To the south of site the school faced a different problem. As many of the students are travelling from multiple towns from around the region, the school wanted to include a separate Year 7 Hub to create a more welcoming transition from Primary school to Secondary College. Although connected to the adjacent year 8-9 building, the new hub centres around a much-loved heritage tree stump and central playing court that is protected by an extensive triangular canopy.
